Triduum of Prayer to Our Lady of Fatima 11-13 May

Date posted: 07-05-2021

As we approach the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima on Thursday 13 May, a special Triduum of Prayer will take place in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh from Tuesday 11 – Thursday 13 May. People may join in person or via St Patrick’s Cathedral Webcam.

A special Statue of Our Lady of Fatima which was presented at the Papal Mass in Fatima for the centenary in 2017 and which was blessed by Pope Francis will be in the Cathedral during the Triduum. Three other Statues of the little shepherds of Fatima, St Jacinta, St Francisco and Lucia and their sheep will also be present. On each of the days, Masses will be celebrated at 8am, 10am and 7.30pm and the Rosary will be prayed each day at 12noon and 7pm. Archbishop Martin will celebrate the 8am Mass on Tuesday, the 7.30pm Mass on Wednesday and the 10am Mass on Thursday. The 7.30pm Mass on the Wednesday evening will be the closing Mass for the Armagh Diocesan Virtual Pilgrimage to Lourdes.

On the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, Fr Seamus White will speak in the Cathedral at 3pm on the story of Fatima and he will share something of his own experience of having visited Fatima many times. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will take place on each of the three days from 12noon – 5pm.

Bringing roses to Our Lady is a long tradition within the Church and in Fatima, roses are blessed regularly and brought to the sick. During the Triduum, people might like to bring a rose to any of the Masses and have it blessed and then bring it to someone who is ill or struggling at present.

As part of Pope Francis’ call for a marathon of prayer in May for the end of the pandemic, on the Monday evening as the Rosary is prayed in St Patrick’s Cathedral at 7.10pm, we will also pray to Our Lady for this intention.

Prayer to Our Lady of Fatima

Blessed Virgin Mary of Fatima, with renewed gratitude for your motherly presence, we join in the voice of all generations that call you blessed. May we allow your sweet gaze to reach us and the perpetual warmth of your smile. Guard our life with your embrace: bless and strengthen every desire for good; give new life and nourishment to faith; sustain and enlighten hope; awaken and animate charity; guide us all on the path to holiness. Teach us your own special love for the little and the poor, for the excluded and the suffering, for sinners and the wounded of heart. Gather all people under your protection and give us all to your Beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
